Progress is being made and now we need your further help

For a number of years, the Ellerslie Football and Cricket Clubs respectively, through the umbrella organization of the Ellerslie Sports Club Inc, have been in a progressive redevelopment of Michaels Ave Reserve. With Stage 1 (the artificial playing surfaces) and Stage 2 (the Lower Field resurfacing and floodlighting) now completed by Auckland Council, the increased field capacity generated by this ratepayer funded capital investment always envisaged the need for the replacement of the outdated, and inadequate sizing of the existing ablutions block, in order to cater for increased patronage of the fields by both male and female members.

In addition, this third stage also anticipated the relocation of the current clubrooms from the YMCA complex onto the top of the proposed new amenities level, in order to form a more visible “hub” and focal point for the delivery of future Football and Cricket activities , as well as providing opportunities for access to the meeting facilities by the wider community.

The Proposed Building

A two level building is to be built into the bank immediately to the south of the current amenities block, with egress from the upper level onto the existing carpark area and from the lower level onto the Lower Fields.

The complex will provide for the following:

  • Lower Amenities Block – 8 x Changing Rms, Referees’ Changing Rms (male/female), First Aid/Physio Rms, Storage areas and Public Toilet Facilities.
  • Upper Clubrooms Block – Multi Office Administration area, Lounge/Function area, Bar/Food Catering area, 2 x Meeting Rms for third Party hire, Terrace areas and Public Toilet Facilities.

The Benefits to our Membership

  • Offers a functional facility that is “fit for purpose” and is attractive/appealing to members and that provides a focal point for the delivery of community focussed programmes
  • By creating such a hub, to drive the ongoing sustainability of the Clubs, from cultural, financial, sociability and sporting success points of view
  • To more adequately cater for our growing female membership, including appropriate segregation of changing rooms
  • Offers an opportunity for connection with the wider community by encouraging third parties to utilize the facilities via hireage
  • Creates a greater sense of “ownership” by our members through the ability to deliver activities that generate a sense of community belonging.

Current Status of Project

Resource Consent has been granted for the project by Auckland Council. Developed Design documentation has been completed and now is with our Project Quantity Surveyor in order to obtain an updated , and more accurate Construction Estimate, due in late Feb. 2020. The intention is to then proceed into Detailed Design documentation for Building Consent, which we envisage lodging by late May 2020.

Project Budget

Previously, and based on Preliminary Design only, an independent Quantity Surveyor had formulated a Current Estimate for the design and construction of the proposed building at $5,690,000 ( including a 10% Contingency Sum).

  • With Developed Design now completed, we envisage that this number will come down considerably, to circa $5,000,000 (subject to confirmation in late Feb)
  • To date, Auckland Council, through various agencies, has committed the total sum of $2,840,000.
  • In addition, we have been successful in securing further funding from NZCT for $300,000, and NZ Lotteries Commission for $400,000. Further applications are still pending.

To date, donations from our membership and community have raised $205,000, but we need a further $275,000 from our own resources to allow the design work required for building consent to be completed.

And this is where you can help

Firstly, thank you to those who have already supported our endeavours. Now, we would like to invite each of our past and present members, and their families or anyone else that believes in our vision to make a donation to this project by clicking on the link below. This link will explain in more detail various ways in which donations can be made to suit individual budgets.

The raising of this sum of $275,000 is the final milestone to achieve in order to push the construction button, which we are planning to do in Sept 2020.
